Explore Our Industry

While South Central Indiana REMC is individually owned and operated, the REMC works closely with other cooperatives and businesses that provide services to us. The following is a short description of a few of these businesses:

Electric Consumer Online

Indiana Statewide's monthly publication

CoBank

An internationally recognized cooperative bank, CoBank has been the leading lender to some of America's most successful businesses since 1916. CoBank is a part of the $84 billion Farm Credit System, the largest lender to U.S. agriculture and rural America. As rural America's cooperative bank, CoBank helps strengthen U.S. agriculture and the economies of rural communities by providing its customers with the financing they need to be successful.

Cooperatives Finance Corporation

To finance its growing capital needs, the rural electric program began in the mid-1960s to seek alternative funding sources to supplement government lending. In 1967 the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) proposed the creation of a not-for-profit financing institution that would be cooperatively owned by rural electric systems themselves. NRECA's members approved this plan and, on April 10, 1969, CFC was incorporated.

Hoosier Energy

A generation and transmission cooperative located in Bloomington, IN. The primary function of Hoosier Energy is to provide electricity, produced at one of two generating plants, for 16 central and southern Indiana REMCs. Over 80 percent of Hoosier Energy's generating capacity is equipped with pollution-control devices making us already in compliance with federal clean air laws.

Indiana's Electric Cooperatives

Indiana Statewide Association of RECs is an organization designed to provide all REMCs in Indiana an organized voice in legislative affairs, provide training and safety services to the cooperatives, and offer communication services.

National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA)

NRECA is a national service organization that provides a voice in Congress for over 1,000 co-ops. It also provides communication services and training for employees as well as a variety of other services.
