Meter Reading-AMR

During the summer of 2007, South Central Indiana REMC installed a new automated meter reading (AMR) system that uses wireless radio transmitters to remotely read customer meters and then transfer the data to our office. The benefits to our members include:

  • Lower meter reading costs
  • Enhanced customer convenience
  • A reduction in operational costs
  • Call resolution improvement; billing questions will be handled more effectively due to the availability of daily meter readings
  • Reduction in the duration of power outages

Automated systems can easily take readings daily or even hourly on request. This improves long-term and short-term planning, allows engineering to manage fluctuating usage more easily, and provides faster response to member's inquiries from our customer service representatives.

For further information or questions on the AMR system, please email Jack Hubbard, our Engineering Manager, or call 765-342-3344 or 800-264-7362.

Cycle Billing

South Central Indiana REMC utilizes a system of cycle billing for meter reading. This simply means that instead of reading all meters at the beginning of the month and sending out bills in the middle of the month, meters are read throughout the entire month, and bills are issued at four different times during the month.

There are four cycle areas covered by SCI REMC. Cycle one is an area north and east of Martinsville. Cycle two is an area south and southeast of Martinsville. Cycle three is an area southwest of Martinsville. Cycle four is an area northwest of Martinsville.

There is a separate billing schedule for each cycle. The following shows the schedule for each cycle. Dates shown for mailing bills, the due date and the disconnect date may vary up to four days beyond the date shown.
