FAQs - Sales and Service

Q. What does a security system cost?
A. Our basic system starts at $199 installed. It includes; 3-door/window sensors, touch pad, interior siren, CPU panel, window stickers, yard sign and insurance certificate (you can get up to 20% off of your homeowner’s insurance for a monitored security system). Plus monitoring fee. We have other packages available to meet your specific needs. We also have sensors for motion, glass break, temperature, water and smoke as well as Latchkey paging features school-aged children to alert parents they have arrived home safely.

Q. What is the monitoring fee?
A. It is $25.00 per month for a 48 month contract.

Q. How can I get an estimate?
A. If you have web access you can get an estimate by visiting our website: www.sciservices.coop and click on the Security products. Or, we can have a sales representative call you and/or visit your home. Call Angie directly at 765-352-4771 or toll free at 800-222-7362 (option #2). Or, we can mail you a brochure.

Q. How long does it take to install a security system?
A. It ranges from 4-6 hours and someone must be home. We can usually schedule an installation between 3-6 days out. Our hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Q. Can you bill me for my security system?
A. Yes, with a good credit rating we can bill you and offer terms up to 90 days same as cash.

Q. Is my monitoring billed with my electric bill?
A. If you are an SCI REMC member, you will get a separate bill for monitoring, but it is mailed along with your electric bill. You can pay with one check, just be sure to mail in both billing stubs. You do not have to be an REMC member to purchase our security products.

Q. Can my monitoring fee be drafted from my checking account?
A. Yes, we can send you a form to fill out and return. It takes approximately one billing month to get it set up on your draft.

Q. Where is my system being monitored?
A. WH International (an electric Cooperative) out of Rockford, MN. Response time is generally 15-20 seconds for them to call regarding an alarm. They are an excellent response center and have the same customer service philosophy as SCI.

Q. Does my security system have a battery back up?
A. Yes, it has a CPU battery back up that last approximately 18 hours.

Q. Do you offer cellular back up?
A. Yes, You can also purchase a cellular back up for approximately $300 and an additional monitoring fee of $15 per month. You must be able to get a cell phone signal of at least two bars on your cell phone generally for these systems to work. We will be happy to do a free analysis for you.

Q. How often does my system need servicing?
A. You have a one-year full warranty on parts and service for the first year. Any other servicing after the first year generally is replacement of batteries. Batteries can be purchased at SCI for approximately $5 each (you can buy them at Radio Shack but the cost is generally $10-12) We can mail the batteries to your home and you can change them yourself. Or we can do it for you.

Q. What are your service fees?
A. We charge a trip charge of $40.00 and for any service more than 30 minutes we charge out at $55.00 per hour plus parts.
