2008 Rural Electric Youth TourWin a Trip of A Lifetime! If you are a high school junior and are living in or attending school in South Central Indiana REMC’s service area, you could win an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. See what previous attendees have to say about the Rural Electric Youth Tour. South Central Indiana REMC is sponsoring a local high school student to attend the 2008 Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington D.C. from Thursday, June 12, 2008 to Thursday, June 19, 2008. “One of the primary reasons of students going to Washington is the opportunity to meet with their Congressman and Senators,” stated Kevin Sump, SCI REMC's CEO. It’s a great chance to meet with other high school students from around the country and see how they can make a difference in their own communities. It’s a week they’ll never forget.” The Rural Electric Youth Tour is a joint effort of local electric co-ops, such as South Central Indiana REMC, their statewide co-op associations, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Arlington, Va. The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is scheduled each year so that young adults have the opportunity to travel to our nation’s capital, to learn first-hand how our government functions, to learn about the complexities of today’s electric utility industry, to discover the unique characteristics of cooperative business enterprise and to meet and work with hundreds of their peers from throughout the United States. South Central Indiana REMC will cover all travel expenses from Indianapolis, meals, lodging and scheduled event fees. South Central Indiana REMC is now accepting applications for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Applicants must be in their junior year in high school and be enrolled for their senior year by tour date. All applications and health forms must be received at South Central Indiana REMC on or before March 21, 2008. “You do not need to be a member of South Central Indiana REMC, however you must attend school in the counties that we serve,” stated Kevin Sump, CEO for SCI REMC. “Home-schooled students are also eligible to apply,” said Sump. The application includes a short essay of 250 words or less answering the following question: How does your local electric cooperative improve the quality of life in your community? Interested students may print out an application to complete by following the link below.
