Operation RoundUp: Small Change, Big Impact in Our Community

How Your Spare Change Helps Strengthen Our Community and Support Local Programs

Did you know that South Central Indiana REMC members have helped provide more than $4 million in grants to community-focused organizations since 1995? That impact is made possible through Operation RoundUp, a program powered entirely by our members.

Operation RoundUp allows members to round their monthly electric bill up to the nearest dollar. Those extra cents are pooled into a fund that is distributed quarterly as grants to nonprofit organizations across SCI REMC’s service territory. These grants support events and projects that directly benefit our members and strengthen our communities.

Over the years, Operation RoundUp funding has supported a wide range of initiatives, including food pantries, volunteer emergency-response units, group housing programs, and many other essential community services. By helping organizations improve and sustain their programs, Operation RoundUp ensures these vital services remain available to those who need them most.

Here are a few facts on Operation RoundUp:

  • The average member contributes about $6 per year.
  • Participating members with graduating seniors may apply for the annual Operation RoundUp Scholarship.
    • Five scholarships are available each year.
    • Applications are due Feb. 28.

Do you know an organization that could benefit from an Operation RoundUp grant?

SCI REMC accepts applications year-round, divided into four quarterly periods, making it easy for nonprofits to apply at the time that works best for them.

Grants are awarded quarterly to support organizations hosting events or running programs that benefit SCI REMC members.

The second quarter of applications will open in March 2026.
