Wiring Manuals

The documents below are from South Central Indiana Rural Electric Membership Corporation (SCI REMC)’s “Simplified Wiring Manuals.” The intent of providing these documents is to assist a qualified person in installing new facilities in accordance with SCI REMC and the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements. In all cases, the qualified individual is responsible for adhering to NEC requirements when installing electrical equipment, whether or not these requirements are explicitly stated in the Simplified Wiring Manual. If a conflict between the Simplified Wiring Manual and NEC requirements exists, the more stringent requirement should be followed.

In almost all cases, the qualified individual will need to obtain a county inspection of work done before service from SCI REMC will be provided. The county inspector can refuse to pass inspection based on their understanding of the NEC. Therefore, if unusual situations arise, it is usually best to consult with SCI REMC personnel and the county inspector before proceeding with the installation of electrical equipment.

Meter bases must be UL approved socket meter bases and must be mounted on a permanent structure. Meter bases may not be installed on or attached to SCI poles.
