Youth Programs

One of our principles is Commitment to Community. We believe the future of our community is our youth, so we think our time and money are well-spent supporting youth programs and organizations in our community. We support opportunities for students to learn more about energy, the cooperative business model, history, government, leadership, and much more.

South Central Indiana REMC understands the value of educating our youths. That’s why the co-op offers multiple learning opportunities for students of all ages:

Cooperative Calendar of Student Art (Kindergarten – Grade 12)

Students can submit artwork for the Indiana Electric Cooperatives’ Calendar of Student Art. Monthly winners receive $200, Honorable Mentions $75, and one ‘Artist of the Year’ earns an extra $100. Submit by February 27, 2026.
Energy Explorers Day Camp (Grade 4 – Grade 6)

Energy Explorers Day Camp is for students entering grades 4–6 and is typically held annually in late June at the SCI REMC headquarters in Martinsville. Students will learn about electric cooperatives, energy efficiency, safety, fiber internet, and more!
Youth Power and Hope Awards (Grade 5 – Grade 8)

The Youth Power and Hope Awards honor Indiana students for community service. Up to five winners receive $500 and are featured in Indiana Connection.
Camp Kilowatt (Grade 6)

6th grade Students entering 7th grade in 2026 can apply for Camp Kilowatt, featuring hands-on safety activities and traditional camp fun. SCI REMC sponsor up to three students to attend for free. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2026.
Page Day (Grade 9 – Grade 12)

Page Day with the Indiana Senate lets high school students explore state government through tours, activities, and meeting legislators. Transportation is required; the day is excused. Page day is January 27, 2026. Applications deadline is January 9, 2026.
Youth Tour (Grade 11)

SCI REMC sponsors up to two students going into their senior year for the Indiana Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., where delegates explore landmarks, museums, and memorials, and visit their Congressman and the U.S. Capitol. Deadline to apply is February 13, 2026.
John D. Rudd Memorial Scholarship (Grade 12)

SCI REMC members who participate in the Operation RoundUp program can apply to receive one of five $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors pursing. Recipients are selected based on academics, activities, work experience, and essays.
